The fandom by Anna Day- an analysis

Ahhh fandoms. Aren’t they great? Who wouldn’t want to go to Hogwarts, enter the hunger games or have the force be with one? I think everyone has dreamt of entering their favorite book, movie or musical, but do we really want to be a part of the world? The Fandom by Anna Day deals with a lot of struggles such as love, jealousy, friendship, fandoms and loss. Warning! If you haven’t read it, please stop and read it before continuing reading this! There’re major spoilers ahead!!! Alright now that the ones who want to read it is gone, I’m going to talk about the book and why it’s so good in my opinion.

First, the characters. There’re so many variated characters in this book. The four main characters are so different yet complement each other really well. We have Violet, who is a big-time fan of the movie and book “The Gallows Dance”. She feels incompetent to Rose the main character in the book and her bestie Alice. She is written as extremely beautiful and talented. Although in the start she sounds like a basic character, she’s actually very interesting. She likes making fanfiction of the fandom and she has a lot of issues with fitting in. Then there’s Nate, Violets genius little brother, who tragically dies in the book. And lastly there’s Katie. She hasn’t read the book nor seen the movie yet is sucked into the world.

Secondly. THE WORLD. It's such an good idea to make a dystopian society where there's normal people (imps) and perfect people (gems) and it being like apartheid. First of all, people are separated just like white people and POC were in South Africa once. In both universes only the best could get work at the "superior" people, though they're equally worth, it's the society making one of them superior. There's so many hints to apartheid with the whole imp-gem thing. How only the best imps can serve the gems and the gems hating on imps until they start a revolution and make things easier. You can't deny there's a lot of references going on in The Fandom. That or you live under a very heavy rock.

The side characters in the book is cool too and the gallows dance is an awesome story. There’s a lot of character development. I feel like there's too much to cover in one analysis. i think of making more about the fandom, the characters, the pop culture, the messages and the symbolism. I think i wanna make this a series. Lets see if i do (probably not lol)...
